The Science of Getting Rich

Wallace D Wattles published “The Science of Getting Rich” (TSGR) in 1910. It is THE book behind the hit movie and best-seller, ‘The Secret’. You would do well to get to grips with TSGR in 2011. As the author notes, you develop “in mind, soul and body by making use of things” and our society is organised in a way that you “must have money” to have these things. So, the basis of “all advancement” (achieving your goals, living your dreams) depends absolutely on you understanding and living out TSGR. No ifs, no buts, no maybes.

Remember, it’s not money itself but the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil. An essential message here is to Love People and Use Money. Wallace D Wattles opens his great masterpiece with a similar teaching:

“Whatever may be said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich”. He goes on to say that you cannot rise to your greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless you have plenty of money.

But remember, money does not grow on trees. You obtain it through action. Well, more precisely you obtain by acting in a “Certain Way”, as Wallace D Wattles puts it.

Perhaps you don’t believe you deserve wealth or are worthy of obtaining money in abundance. Well, you would be wrong. You are here to fulfill God’s purpose for you on earth and guess what – you need money to do that. If you are to ‘love your neighbour as you love yourself’ then make sure you get You sorted first. And where do you start with all that – well, through the Great Commandment : Love the Lord you God [the Father of All Creation], with all your (conscious) mind, and with all your heart (subconscious, emotional guidance system) and with all of your soul (spirit, superconscious). You must have focus, filled with emotion and put into action. The Eternal Creator will take care of the how (you attract abundant sources of money).

  1. I agree with you that we all deserve abundance and all that encompasses. I agree that we also have to believe we deserve this and allow it for it to manifest in our lives.

I have not read the works of Wallace D. Wattles, and, therefore, am not familiar with the philosophy. However, I can tell you from experience, that money is only one piece of the puzzle to attain happiness and a full life. It is only a PART of the reality. A very small one in my opinion.

  2. Hi Debbie, great to hear from you. I think that we are actually almost on the same page. I stayed away from books like the Science of Getting Rich and for years thinking they were all about money and aimed at ‘lovers of money’. Happiness and therefore richness comes from within. Wattles is all about people and more especially humanity (his works on the Life of Jesus and The Science of Being Great bring this out particularly). That’s what I do; love people and use money and I am now committed to doing what I can to shift our world paradigm that has led to so much misery and poverty. Really appreciate you taking time to stop by. Take care. Stephen
